Marc Ventresca

Marc Ventresca is a University Lecturer in management studies at Saïd Business School, a fellow of Wolfson College and University Fellow at the James Martin Institute of Science and Civilization, all at the University of Oxford. Courses taught include Technology & Innovation Strategy, Strategy Implementation, Entrepreneurial Strategy and Organisation and Advanced Organisation Theory.

He earned his PhD in sociology at Stanford University, following masters’ degrees in policy analysis and sociology. Marc served for nine years on the faculty of the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University and has held visiting faculty positions at the University of Illinois, the Copenhagen Business School, at the Center of Work, Technology, And Organizations and the Institute of Research of Higher Education, both at Stanford University, and at the University of California at Irvine. Outside the academy he is active in the field of executive education, and he has worked with clients including British Energy, the League of Women Voters, the U.S. Navy 3rd Fleet, and Zurich Insurance.

Marc's research uses strategy, economic sociology, and cultural institutionalism to understand industry emergence, innovation, and entrepreneurial activity in knowledge-intensive industries. Current research projects investigate global models and institutional innovation, the shifting conceptions of 'services' in statistical frameworks of the model economy, governance reforms in 'ancient' universities of Sienna, Uppsala, and Oxford, and governance innovations and new business models in the global field of financial markets.

The author of multiple edited volumes, book chapter and articles, Marc also serves on the editorial boards of Organisation, Organization Studies, and the European Management Review.
